Smart Start is a fun and engaging music program for children ages 0-4, created by the Royal Conservatory, a leading institution in music education for over 130 years. Developed through neuroscience research, the curriculum consists of age-targeted, weekly classes, enjoyable for both care provider and child alike.

Hello! I am Nicola Cameron, your certified Smart Start teacher. 

Music surrounded me from my infancy. I began music lessons at 3 and I now realise, through studying neuro-development in the Smart Start Program, what an advantage that gave me.

I moved to Calgary 30 years ago while completing my ARCT teachers'. Over the years, my home studio has seen over 700 students turned into music lovers because I make lessons fun and engaging.

The Smart Start Program is new to the world and I am excited to be among the first to offer it in Alberta.

I also am an author. Check out Leoshine! Do you love audiobooks? I'm a narrator.  I love animals, arts and crafts, canoeing, hiking, and all things natural. Right now I'm studying for my bachelors in musicology.

Smart Start targets four cognitive skills that lead to a fuller life:

Memory:

Retention and retrieval of information not immediately available. Build it now for a lifetime!

Attention:

Concentrating on an object or idea and ignoring distractions. A little now means a lot later!

Perception:

Interpreting the senses, recognising patterns, making sense of information. Drink in the world to own it! 

Cognitive Flexibility:

Categorisation, task switching, problem solving, creativity, humour. Think on your feet, stay in the loop!
